What is hierarchy?
The more you ascend atop,
The higher is your power!
And up at the top
You find yourself a monarch!
What is monarchy?
The more you descend adown,
The more you feel your power!
And down beneath the line
You feel yourself lost!
In monarchy and hierarchy
Prejudice is the prime resort!
The tenor of the power
Never has its cast
In the minds that seek the sway
Since they are here just to grey!
It is the free and republic heart
That leads its way unto service
And hence is known as leader!
Close
this is an idea close to my heart
and you've put it so well
in the phrase
republic heart

this is an idea that we all forget too easily; I imagine that real leaders should have your poem on their table or laptop to remind them of the truth about leadership that you've capured so well in your poem

dear dawn and dew.
i shre with you the way i look at it......
Hierarchy is one reality of existance.
some one is more powerful than other it is power hierarchy
some one is more knowledgeable:that is knowledge hierarchy..
so like this wisdom hirarchy.. and many other hierarchy may exist.
the one arena where the hirarchy has no maening
( i experience you referring to this)
is when w reltae to one another as human beings. in human ness there is no hierarchy...
i enjoyed your post . it made me think...

I know the passion of our Tamil Teachers. They like themselves to be termed as amma and iyya in the respective gender. Though I have never been under any iyya, I had always been taught by Tamil teachers- ammas. You gave me the same impression of my tamil teachers and your name also gave me that idea. So I heartily preferred to call you Iyya -- the term for Tamil teachers who are gents. Thanks for acknowledging this student!
